Why does everyone make a big deal of a newborn?

I got to spend some time with a one month and 4 day old at a restaurant and nearly everyone in the place came by to look in on the baby.
Yes, my turn to hold the little one was not passed by. The little guy fussed, ate, passed some wind, slept, and dreamed (with smiles.)
Holding a newborn again brought me back to my early child rearing days some twenty something years ago. For the time I held the little guy, I wanted it to be a perfect experience for him as I did my own kids.
Babies do not come with instruction guides, and so it takes a support network to help new parents learn.
For me, it is about hope. Hope for all of us. Hope for the future.
