Westborough Korean Restaurant

Westborough Korean Restaurant

7 East Main Street
Westborough, MA 01581

(508) 366-8898

So for nearly seven years I’ve passed by a restaurant wondering what it is like inside. In what was once a diner (Dacy’s Diner) and then a Chinese restaurant, the Westborough Korean Restaurant stands.

Looking for an early dinner one night, I dropped by the Westborough Korean Restaurant. The outside of the restaurant seems odd to me, perhaps it’s the partially enclosed entrance. I parked across the street and walked to the restaurant, thinking about how nice it is to be so close to the Westborough Rotary.

Once I climbed the stairs and entered the place, I was immediately at ease. By no means large inside, the seating area is larger than it appears from the outside. The restaurant has table and booth seating, is tastefully decorated with interesting wall hangings, and has a couple large screen TVs to stay up on events.

Seating myself at a table, hot tea was immediately served to me making be feel welcome.

The staff speaks Korean to each other, and was quite nice in speaking English to this non-Korean speaking guy. My waitress walked me through the tattered menu, asking for my preferences and making suggestions.

The restaurant does not have a website, so there is a scan of the extensive take our menu. Going for a simple entrée, the vegetable noodle stir-fry sounded good, especially with the added chicken.

While waiting for my food to be prepared, I took in the paper wrapped utensil, and the paper wrapped chop sticks. I have to admit to chuckling at the West Borough spelling on the chop stick wrapper (see photo.)

While Sapporo feels more like Disneyworld with the different sections and something for everyone, the Westborough Korean Restaurant came across to me as more the “real deal.’  So if North Korea’s leader Kim Jong Uh comes to Westborough, we’ll go to Westborough Korean Restaurant for dinner, and then finish the evening with some Mai Tai’s at Sapporo.

As with any Korean dinner, the number and types of side dishes is a treat in itself. While passing on the anchovy, the other sides varied from seaweed to tofu to spicy coleslaw. Quite delicious.

My vegetable noodle stir-fry was quite good, made with large diameter noodles, nice chicken, and just the right amount of spice (warm and not 4 alarm.)

The wait staff made me feel comfortable throughout dinner, checking in on me, filling my tea, and discussing where they are from, etc.

The bill was a treat, too. Just about ten bucks. Add a tip, and I was a very cheap date.

Overall, I was happy I dropped in and tried the Westborough Korean Restaurant.
