BeeZers

BeeZers

277 Main Street
Northborough MA

It’s summer.  Where do you go to get “special” hot dog?

While there are places serving hot dogs, places serving a “special” hot dog are few and far between.

Moe’s Hot Dog Truck, often found around 1015 Grafton Street in Worcester, serves fabulous grilled hot dogs.  In my opinion., Moe serves one of the best hot dogs around…he says it is a combination of the ingredients and the grill.  “The only way to serve a hot dog is off the grill.”

Casey’s Diner in Natick might disagree.  At 36 South Street, they’ve been boiling their dogs and steaming their buns since 1890.  Yes, 1890.  And they also serve a great hamburger.  Natick was a hometown for me once, and Casey’s never disappoints.

What about around Westborough?  Jane Gordon recently suggested a visit to BeeZers, a Northborough hot dog joint missing from action for nearly 3 years and reopening in a small space adjacent to Trombetta’s Farm Ice Cream at 277 Main St. in Northborough.

On my visit, my Hot Dog chef was Steve Bock, husband of the owner Linda Bock.  He went on at length about BeeZers.  We were at our old location (14 East Main) for 12 years, closing in October 2009.  Steve’s been rehabbing in the interim, dealing with some ailments from moving hot oil over the years.  You could tell he was pleased to be back, and other customers were greeting him like an old friend.

The dogs are imported from Chicago, with the buns made fresh in Worcester by Crown Bakery.  Beezers steams the dogs and buns, so grilled fans are best at Moes.

The menu is full of interesting hot dogs, all “imported” from Chicago.  I went with the BeeZers Chicago Hot Dog, a “Gourmet all beef dog topped with mustard, relish, onions, sliced tomato, cucumber, a crisp dill pickle and a sprinkle of celery salt.  Sport peppers optional.”  The Chicago Italian Beef is new…thin sliced Italian beef served on a French roll dipped in au jus.

I went with the Chicago hot dog, with Steve handing me some chewing gum, “to help with the onions after.”

Seating was out back, at a picnic table under a tree.  It was a very relaxing place to enjoy my hot dog.

A hot summer lunch day…a nice hot dog with tempting ice cream next door.  A good deal!

BeeZers gets a GREEN LIGHT…go and enjoy.

About the RAG scale:

Green Light – Go and enjoy

       Amber Light – Use caution

Red Light – Save your time and money
